Vågnes lies between two salmon rivers : Skittenelva (2 km) and Tønsvikelva.(8 km). The earliest village dwellers lived by farming and fishing. While a few fishermen remain to this day, most locals now earn their living in town.

Hikingtrails: left side of Tønsvikelva , leading to 2 mountain-cottages ,/ on both sides of Skittenelva./ From South Vågnes : leading to lakes./ From Snarbyeidet you`ll find a marked trail leading via many mountain-cottages to Tromsdalen. That trail is 42 km.

During the winter-time (February /March) , depending on the weather-condition, this trail is a well prepared ski track, with side-tracks, even to our place

Near here ,at the schoolyard, is a play-ground and a football-ground.

Every summer we are "invited" on 10  different hiking- trails :on the mainland and on the outlying islands

Late July and August are mushroom-/and blueberry-season.

17 km to the  north of Vågnes is the village of Oldervik, where, over thousands of years, the erosion of the sea has molded unusual and facination landscape formations in the ancient rocks.

The out-lying islands are worth exploring for their peace and natural beauty, while the local harbour town of Tromsø offers a more cosmopolitan culture including museums, theatre, cafes, restaurants, bars,night-clubs and of course shops!
