Vågnes lies between two salmon rivers: Skittenelva and Tønsvikelva. The earliest village dwellers lived by farming and fishing. While a few fishermen remain to this day, most locals now earn their living in town.
From late July it is "mushrooms-season".
17 km to the north of Vågnes is the village of Oldervik where, over thousands of years, the erosion of the sea has moulded unusual and fascinating landscape formations in the ancient rock.
The local out-lying islands are worth exploring for their peace and natural beauty, while the local harbour town of Tromsø offers a more cosmopolitan culture including museums, theatre, cafés, restaurants, bars, night-clubs
and of course shops!
